Job Title: Senior Lathe Machine Operator

Reports to: Production Supervisor                     

Duty Station: Addis Ababa

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB Summary:

The Senior Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for leading lathe machining operations to produce high-precision metal components according to engineering drawings and specifications. The role focuses on ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and quality while supervising junior operators and optimizing machining processes.

The position requires advanced technical proficiency in CNC programming, machine setup, and precision measurement. The Senior Operator plays a critical role in improving production efficiency, mentoring junior staff, and maintaining the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities:

·  Operate and supervise manual and CNC lathe machines to manufacture precision metal parts.

·  Set up, calibrate, and optimize machines for maximum efficiency and accuracy.Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.

·  Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.

·  Lead troubleshooting and corrective actions for machine and process issues.

·  Ensure routine maintenance and optimal performance of all lathe machines.

· Enforce safety standards and operational procedures across the production floor.

· Supervise, guide, and mentor junior lathe machine operators.

· Monitor production output, quality, and efficiency; implement process improvements as needed.

· Collaborate with production planning, maintenance, and quality control teams to optimize workflows.

·  Maintain detailed records of machine operations, maintenance, and production metrics.

JOB SPECIFICATION

Qualifications

· Education:

Level 4 TVET in General Mechanics with COC, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Lathe Machine Operation.

Required Skills:                    

· Minimumof  5 years of experience as a Lathe Machine Operator or in advanced machining roles.

·  Advanced proficiency in CNC programming and machine setup.

·  Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

·  Precision measurement skills using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other tools.

· Strong understanding of metalworking techniques and machining processes.

· Ability to lead, supervises, and train junior operators.

· Experience in process optimization and improving production efficiency.

· Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and quality-focused skills.

· Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
